Explore the Ruins of Kaljaja Castle
This is one of the best things to do in Prizren, Kosovo, if you want to step back in time.
Here, you can learn plenty about this historic site — the old castle was once under Ottoman control, who held social gatherings here.
Wonder what life was like back then as you explore the castle, also known as Prizren Castle. The hilltop fortification overlooks the Prizren River and saw settlement dating back to the Bronze Age — visit one of Kosovo’s most famous historic sites to immerse yourself in the past.
Take a Walk in the Rugova Mountains
The Rugova Mountains are a must-see in Kosovo, located northwest of the city of Peja.
They’re lush and green in summer, and known for hiking, paragliding, mountain climbing, and skiing (in winter).
One of the best things to do in Peja, Kosovo, is spending time on a walk with family or friends, reading a book over a cup of coffee, and taking in the views. Winter adventures are exciting too, with mountain slopes to discover for skiing, depending on Kosovo’s weather.

Visit the Bear Sanctuary in Pristina
One of the more interesting things to do in Kosovo is visiting the bear sanctuary, which opened in 2013.
It’s home to 20 bears rescued from abusive conditions, set across a 16-hectare habitat.
Walk around and stop to interact on the bear tour to learn about these wonderful animals — there’s also a lovely cafe and a children’s playground.
The area also offers hiking opportunities and walking trails through the beautiful grounds, with a lake a little further down if you fancy a swim.
See the Kosovo National Library
Kosovo’s National Library has become one of the country’s famous attractions since it earned its reputation as one of the “ugliest buildings in the world.”
Designed by Croatian architect Andrija Mutnjaković and opened in 1982, it looks like a series of chain-covered boxes topped with white domes — an interesting building to look at and a favourite stop among tourists.
The library collects and preserves documents relating to the country’s intellectual heritage.
Hike Through the Beauty of Rugova Valley
Hiking through the beautiful Rugova Valley is one of the top things to do in Kosovo. This is part of the “Peaks of the Balkans” trail, which runs for 10-13 days.
The hike covers the mountains of Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro, and you can also hike to Lake Kiseljak on the border with Montenegro, one of the most beautiful attractions along the way.
Rugova Valley is a stretch of mountains with rivers and waterfalls and rocky terrain, sitting at the heart of the Dukagjin region in northwestern Kosovo, covering an area of 32,000 hectares.
